3D Radio - bringing you a new dimension in broadcasting!
Silver Surfers, don't forget that you can come to Phoenix Radio and learn new skills with us. We are looking for people who have an interest in Halifax's more recent past. Come and present, learn about radio technology or be interviewed. Through funding received from Awards For All we are developing a series of broadcast-ready radio shows for the over-50's based around archiving and recording the three decades of Popular culture and music (hence the name of the project 3D or Three Decades).
If the 1970s gave us the winter of discontent and the 1960's our summer of love was the 1950's our spring? Did we look optimistically at a post-war world through fresh eyes awaiting change that comes with the seasons?
The three-pronged visual attack of television, radio and cinema was given a kaleidoscopic soundtrack that would lead us to the generation that changed the world, allegedly. Yet nothing comes from nothing….
These shows are a mixture of local as well as world history mixed with sound clips and music of the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. From 1950 and Halifax-born actor Wilfred Pickles' receiving of the OBE through to 1963's British film, "This Sporting Life" being filmed at Halifax RLFC's Thrum Hall ground right through to 1970's disastrous Krumlin Pop Festival and Thrum Hall festival.
We need people to interview others as well as using their own archived material or material from the local Public libraries of Calderdale. It will give people directly involved opportunities to learn new skills whilst allowing the community as a whole to learn more about itself through interviews and information supplied by local people.
Be a part of this exciting new venture here in the heart of Calderdale.
Volunteers will also be given the opportunity to obtain the Asdan Community Volunteering Certificate which is the equivalent of 2 grade B G.C.S.E's or a short Asdan Award in Community Volunteering. Both programmes are open to people of all ages thus supporting life-long learning.
We want to hear both from you and about you!
