Todmorden Carnival
The Todmorden Charity Carnival was held on the 23rd of May 2009.
The weather was a typical Spring day, sunshine, and Phoenix FM was down in Centre Vale Park, doing the roadshow, playing the best in today's hits, with live entertainment and more!
After the Carnival Parade through Todmorden, the Carnival in Centre Vale Park started off with a Hawaiian feel, with the mayor of Todmorden wearing flowers around her neck and gave prizes to the gala queens.
The regular tug of war took place, with Phoenix/Samba/Skateboard team (Phoenix FM, Todmorden High Samba Band, and a couple of passing skateboarders), Shannon & Chesapeake team, and Burnley Army Cadets team. Shannon & Chesapeake won this year's tug of war, Burnley coming second.
Leesa Mae, the Leeds acoustic singer, sang songs for the crowds, covering well-known songs, as well as her own songs.
Will the Hebden Bridge jester entertained the locals with mediaeval comedy, Todmorden High School Samba band performed, there was also a Victorian-style Punch and Judy show. Rides, from slides to waltzers, also drew the crowds in.
