On Wednesday the 27th of January 2010, The Victoria Theatre played host to the Legacy Of Hope Event and Phoenix FM were there to broadcast the event live. Introduced by Phoenix presenter Claire Hunter, the evening started with a speech by the Mayor of Calderdale, Councilor Arshad Mahmood.
There were prayers from the Calderdale Interfaith Council as well as Key speakers including Holocaust Survivor - Iby Knill; Lilian Black - daughter of a Holocaust Survivor; Gee Walker whose son Anthony Walker was killed for being a Black man; Sheri Dobrowski whose son Jody was murdered for being a Gay man and Michael Shamash who is the Chair of the Restricted Growth Association.
There was a triple sonnet read by a local poet James Nash written especially for the occasion. Local amateur actors acted a very short piece called "The Letter"; Gay Abandon, West Yorkshire's only gay choir performed and Rudi Leavor chanted the "El Male Rachamim". Leader of the Council, Councillor Stephen Baines closed the event.
